Vail Mountain Cabin

Situated among towering Aspens and Ponderosa pines, this rustic log cabin is a hub of respite and outdoor adventure for an active family based in Denver.

The 3,800 square foot home’s craftsmanship and milled logs provide structural integrity that will endure decades to come, but the interiors—which hadn’t been touched since the early 2000s—were filled with oversized, outdated furnishings. The main living spaces had a limited supply of seating and a cramped layout that was no longer conducive to the growing family’s love of entertaining.

Ramey Caulkins was given free reign to overhaul the gathering spaces with a fresh perspective, while maintaining the rustic charm of the traditional log cabin. Caulkins mixed high-end furnishings in durable fabrics with vintage accessories for a lived-in look, and reconfigured the furniture layout to create more space without adding square footage.

The revamped cabin now acts as a comfortable, inspiring space for the family to disconnect from their busy lives and reconnect with the outdoors and one another.
