The walls throughout the house are Barren Plain. We added a Kendall Charcoal ceiling detail in the dining room. The kitchen cabinetry was painted a custom colour (darker than Barren Plain).

Hi Jane, I just started our upstairs of our renovation using Decorators White trim and I love it, however I'm more nervous for continuing it on the Main Floor where our family room (with one wall of shiplap) and kitchen and dining room are. I was afraid it was going to be too stark bc I wanted to use some warmer gray walls like I see with Barren Plain. But I'm also having Brass hardware and light fixtures, So is going with warm walls a mistake? it's a small house. ceilings are 8'4, and some natural light but not a ton.

The Barren Plain color seems so much darker than the color in the photo. Was it changed or lighted at all?

Yes, additional lighting was added for the photography.

First I just want to say that I love your work. I am renovating/practically building from scratch our home. I am looking at picking our paint colours and light fixtures. I have a few questions. Should the trim in the house be all the same colour? In an open concept kitchen/living and dining room do all the light fixtures have to match in colour/finish?

Love this hallway and will be doing something similar in colour for sure.

Thanks for the compliments! I'm a big fan of keeping the trim all the same colour, usually the same white in a pearl finish (Oxford White, Simply White, Benjamin Moore.) You can mix metal finishes (trending right now) but I like keeping sight-lines continuous with lighting. Once a month I'm on facebook Live with Ask Jane where I answer all design and decor questions. The wall colour is Barren Plain (211-60) the trim is Decorator's White (CC20), the door is Twilight Zone (2127-10) all from Benjamin Moore. By chance do you have the sizes and profiles of the crown and baseboards? This is a very elegant look. Thank you

The crown is 10" and the baseboards are between 7"-8". Unfortunately, I do not know the profile as they were chosen by the builder.

Wow. Excited to find this. We settled on barren plain a while ago as our main floor color. I‘m looking for a contrast color for the ceiling. Looked at the link. Is Stone Harbour on the ceiling or is that the wall color? We’re there pictures of the den on that page? Thanks for any direction, Jane.

The contrast colour we used on the dining room ceiling is Kendall Charcoal, a nice deep brown/grey.
