Good quality ceramic tiles will take a pounding which is why they are so often used in entrance halls. Please ensure that you have a solid base on which to put the tiles - like concrete. If you have wooden floors then they need to be screwed down and then the usual treatment is flexible plywood and the tiles must then be fixed using special adhesive (which is slightly flexible and also special grout). Take advice from a good tile supplier store.
