European-Inspired Design Contemporary Landscape, DC Metro

Pristine Acres (www.pristineacres.com) had the wonderful opportunity to build this European-inspired backyard for a very nice young family from Belgium. We incorporated railroad tie planters, flagstone patios and steppers, and a Zoysia grass pool deck into the design. The plantings included lots of Boxwoods and other evergreens and also a European Hornbeam-lined gravel boulevard.

@40portico - Where do you live? Are you in the DC Metro? Not all garden centers carry railroad tie timbers, but I would be happy to help, if I can!

How did you prep to put the tiles? Or you just threw them over the grass?

@cintiavilaramirez In this case the sod was installed after the path was laid. When installing flagstone on existing grass we like to set it, cut out the grass, then place the steppers level on stone dust.

Railroad ties can be found at many lumber yards and used for planters such as these. These were constructed custom for this client by the landscape contractor.
