We prefer to use either standing dead logs, or logs that have been cut for about 3 years. Your particular area my be different, but for our area we use logs with moisture at 12% or less.

Depends on your climate and how well you keep it protected from sun and moisture. With regards to the steel, you should have an engineer specify your connections and use of steel.

Thank you for your interest. I believe his supplier was out of Montana and they may have sources
out of Canada. They are Cedar. Cedar gives you the best "Character"
Flared bottoms.
