The shelving appears to be reclaimed timbers - visit a local salvage yard. Look for timbers 2-3" in thickness and 9-12" in width to achieve this look. Although the installers did not do so here, I always distress and patina the ends we have to cut, for a more authentic rustic feel.

The cable is a unique touch. I've wanted to take this approach with a few of my clients, but couldn't convince them to allow it. With your photo, maybe convincing will be easier next time. Thanks!

Floating shelves were custom made by the millworker. The wood is reclaimed white oak. A hidden cleat is built into the back so that they can be hung with exposed screws or brackets.

i ordered the following parts from McMasters Carr to support a similar kitchen shelf system.

5/32" stainless cable

5/32" end fittings #9161T1

5/32" shaft collars #6432K73

The grout color is natural gray. The counter top material is Petit Granite, honed and tumbled.
