The architect for this custom home, taking cues from the owners' formal aesthetic, suggested an interior courtyard. Working with that concept, we recommended a higher wall with "windows" and developed the idea of a European-style motorcourt with cobblestone curbing and a canopy of trees to order the parking. We ordered the interior courtyard by using a structure of box hedges combined with perennial plantings. The louvered courtyard gate serves as the "front door" to the home. It was crafted to provide seclusion, yet also invite you through the green courtyard "foyer." Working with the architect, we also suggested the pigeonnier be re-aligned with the office window, creating an axial folly in what we call the “cutting and putting” garden. In the rear, a series of gardens and formal lawns with a combination fountain/spa and pool were developed.
