A+DU

A+DU is a highly innovative and scalable housing prototype proposal developed by Swift Lee Office. A+DU recently received Honorable Mention from the Los Angeles County Housing Innovation Challenge.

A+DU expands the concept of “Accessory Dwelling Unit” to exponential
possibilities. A+DU is an accessible, net zero energy, affordable housing prototype. An alternative to large-scale affordable housing modes, A+DU increases housing stock by 50 percent. A+DU is standalone, easily manufacturable, and replicable. The design focuses on structural, climatic, functional, and contextual flexibility and performance.

A+DU is Accessible. Founded in Universal Design principles, designed to
target the homeless population that is rapidly aging and with physical
disabilities. A+DU’s components are designed to accommodate various
degrees of abilities.

A+DU is a net zero energy home. Harvesting solar energy, passive and
active systems, it achieves zero energy performance.

A+DU is designed for easy Assembly and Disassembly. It is a kit-of-parts
systems-based building with components pre-manufactured off-site and
assembled on site.

A+DU is Adaptable to different site contexts and occupant types and sizes.

A+DU is Aspirational allowing individuals and families to live independently, breaking the stigma of homeless and
affordable housing.

A+DU is Affordable not only for the homeless individuals and families who
qualify for rental assistance, but also for the homeowner who can earn
passive income or even pay for the construction loan of the unit.
