From the Architect: Jean Terwilliger, Architect

This LEED Gold rated home takes advantage of southern lake views and solar exposure, and is located on the site of an old cottage with a crumbling foundation. The informal character of the existing cottage was retained while creating a sustainable modern home which sits comfortably in the landscape. Public spaces sit to the west near the road and private spaces sit to the east against a large white pine, with living spaces to the south and service to the north, all wrapping around the central tower and circulation space. The screen porch expands summer living space and sits forward of house to capture summer breezes and eastern views. The aesthetic draws inspiration from local cottage, farmhouse, industrial and agricultural structures. Materials were chosen for durability, low maintenance and energy savings. Hemlock, concrete, fiber cement board and metal were used both inside and outside to unify the structure. AIAVT award winner 2009. Plans for this house are available for sale.
