A 'Train' House by the Tracks: Scribner Residence

Drawing some of its design inspiration from the nearby passing trains, this house also responds to a steeply sloped site near downtown Great Barrington. The design takes advantage of that slope to open up views of the surrounding Berkshire Hills while simultaneously allowing this small (1,600 s.f.) house to feel much larger. The New England red corrugated metal siding and roofing minimizes the need for maintenance while giving a nod to the many barns and farm outbuilding indigenous to the region.
