At Home in Houston
When this family with two elementary school-age daughters moved to Houston, the real estate market was exploding and inventory was very low. They were thrilled to find a mid-century home in a lovely neighborhood, full of children and just steps away from a great school. The good news was that the home had been well cared for and nicely updated. The bad news was that the former owner was much more formal in style and taste. The house was elegant but dark and a little too traditional for the vibrant family.
Pamela O’Brien of Pamela Hope Designs loved the client’s vision of a home with soft pastels in a pretty palette that she and her family could enjoy. Beautiful paint colors created airiness and space. Gorgeous wallpapers freshen up the foyer and two bathrooms. New furnishings created a soft ambiance and colorful accessories added a punch of color.
The tiny dining room was packed with a table and chairs and the formal living room was huge and unused. They moved the dining table into the former living room and the table and ten chairs filled it beautifully. The tiny dining room became a cozy music room, perfect for the girl's lessons and homework.
The kitchen had great counter space but a peninsula protruded and really broke up the flow. Pamela and her design team selected quartz counter tops and created a prettier shape to improve the kitchen's work area.
New lighting added glamour and the home's ambiance was transformed within a few short months. Now the whole family enjoys every room in the house. They love to entertain and are proud to host guests in their light-filled home. Even Maggie, the family pooch, approves.
