Bakke
The objective for this project was to define different outdoor living spaces for the Bakke’s at their cabin in Lake Park, Minnesota. The existing site was overgrown and limited client’s activities on the property. The Bakke’s
wanted a large paver patio and natural fire pit close to the cabin and a space for a future sauna. Due to their property’s existing grade, the Bakke’s also wanted another fire pit area at the bottom of the hill, closer to the lake. Last, but not least, the clients wanted to create a sand beach along the lake.
Incorporating the Bakke’s wishes we designed two separate gathering spaces. The first space closer to the cabin, includes a large patio, seating wall, fire pit, and connection to the future sauna. The second space wraps into the existing hill in the form of a two-tier boulder wall. A rip-rap fire pit in the center of the second space is surrounded by pea rock and a hexagonal swing for seating. Pre-cast steps connect the two spaces and make for a safe path down the hill to the lake. Finally, near the lake we defined the 40’ by 60’ sand beach with rip-rap along the shore.
