We keep an extensive inventory of Appalachian species only as we focus our collections on wind falls and diseased trees that are locally acquired. Most often, they are “yard trees” that without the normal forest competition tend to have thick stocky trunks. We only accept the older and most gnarled or figured wood as they best tell the story of their struggles to survive.
