The second phase of the summer cottage renovation transformed the barn into a guest house. Eastern white pine was used extensively, including the downstairs ceiling and cabinets. White pine tends to yellow with age so the lumber was treated with a UV protector to keep it from darkening. The island’s copper counter top, which was requested by the owner as it reminds him of his favorite diners, will develop a wonderful patina, changing with each wipe and spill.
