When approached to remodel this client’s home of over 30 years, they requested a dining room that could regularly accommodate 10 people. As avid cooks and entertainers, specific zones for preparation, cooking and clean-up were also a must, along with areas to help keep guests out of the kitchen.

In addition to opening spaces by removing walls; a Villa Pantry was added, the existing narrow entry was extended by 4 feet, widening the dining area, and a see-through gas fireplace was installed at the existing chimney.

Zoning truly drove the kitchen plan. The island was to be the chef’s domain, separated from any prep work or cleaning. So, the prep area defines the edge of the kitchen along the dining room, which is beautifully defined by the VG fir soffit detail stemming from the Oyster Slate fireplace. It serves as food prep and, given its adjacency to the dining room, the stemware also finds its home here, conveniently cleaned in the 36” dishwasher drawer. Food storage is easily accessible from both the island and prep areas.

The previously unfinished basement was transformed into the Master Suite and Entertainment area. This includes a generous bedroom, bath, and closet, as well as a sitting/media room and wine cellar. Large shoji doors are used to separate the Master and Sitting/Media room. All of the custom cabinets are made of Sapele wood with dark Wenge wood details and are complimented by the Dolphin Fin and Oyster slate tile to create an exquisite classic Northwest contemporary suite with a Craftsman touch.

This outstanding home now emulates welcome warmth and will host gatherings of friends and family for at least another 30 years.
