Black & White Kitchen

A dark, small, cluttered kitchen takes on a new life with black and white contrast and modern elements.

With the bar positioned in the middle of the room, the client is able to move throughout the space with ease. The upper glass cabinets display the clients large collection of ceramic and glass art while providing additional illumination to the space.

A custom baking center with mirrored backsplash replaces the empty wall of the previous breakfast area. Modern pendants over the bar echo the stainless throughout the kitchen while providing additional task lighting.

The black subway tile provides a great contrast to the modern stainless and glass hood. Built-in wall ovens flank the stove. Stainless cabinet pulls repeat the "silver" tone throughout the kitchen.

The curved bar provides additional seating while housing the farmhouse sink, dishwasher and trash storage.

Metallic silver laminate was installed as a band under the countertop, then LED lighting was installed to illuminate the back of the bar. The silver painted column not only provides support for the ceiling, it adds a modern, whimsical element to the space.

Removing the wall between the kitchen and formal dining area allowed for an open plan and greater use of space. Raising the ceiling and providing a new lighting plan helped the space feel brighter even with the dark counter tops and floor.

The island/bar serves duel purpose, for function and entertaining. Although the cabinetry has a traditional raised panel design, the use of more streamline hardware and sharp color contrast gives the kitchen a feeling of a more modern space.
