That was exactly the case with a young couple in Stamford, Connecticut, who brought us on to reimagine their kitchen and first-floor sitting room. From the moment we stepped into their home for the initial consultation, it was clear they had a vibrant aesthetic and a fearless love for personality-driven design. Our challenge? To harness that energy and channel it into cohesive, functional, and truly inspired spaces.

The kitchen posed the biggest challenge. With a small footprint and a tricky layout, we explored multiple floor plan options before landing on one that dramatically improved the flow into the adjacent open-concept living area. Prioritizing both spatial fluidity and storage—two of the couple’s top concerns—we created a design that maximized every square inch without sacrificing style.

With the layout locked in, we turned our focus to the aesthetic direction. We crafted a color palette and tonal story that complemented select existing furnishings and architectural elements, striking a thoughtful balance between old and new. Designing within the constraints of an existing structure (as opposed to a new build or gut renovation) often requires a more nuanced approach—but it's one we embraced wholeheartedly.
