The homeowners were attracted to Steve Herlong’s signature coastal architectural style, as seen throughout the various homes he’s designed, not only in Charleston but throughout the coastal United States and Caribbean. Having grown up in South Florida, the homeowners knew they wanted their beach home to fully embrace island lifestyle, and chose a unique property with access to a deepwater dock at the rear of the property while being footsteps from the ocean out front. Few locations on Sullivan’s Island offer the proximity of both. Steve envisioned a home that could bask in the light of an ocean sunrise and revel in a marsh sunset with Charleston’s Ravenel bridge in the distance. What evolved during the design process was a home with seamless integration of the interiors to the outdoors. With access to porches and balconies in multiple locations throughout the house, the design maximizes the fortunate inlet location by capturing views from every angle and providing opportunities for relaxing, working and entertaining alike.
