Bridge
Typifying passive solar design, an existing residence designed by James Lambeth in 1976 included a bridge entry as the house stepped down the site. In 2003 the owners wanting to replace the original enclosed wood rail design elected on a more open scheme. The guardrails are constructed of 2x6 vertical posts that give an appearance of solidity as one enters the bridge. As you approach the entry directly to each side the rail becomes lighter due to the absence of horizontal members. The repetitive pattern reflects the adjacent forest and board & batten cedar siding.
