Our clients had a big family and needed a space that was functional and everyone could enjoy. The existing kitchen was too compact and did not allow everyone to use the space at one time. By only expanding the room by 12 inches, we were able to maximize the functionality of the kitchen. We incorporated two islands and more counter space so there were three different work spaces. The outer island was then used for the microwave and lunch supplies for the kids.
