Brown Residence - Shawnee, KS Design Project

We started working with the Brown family when they first started building their home. The Browns’ are a very active family with young children and large family dog, so durability was the basis for our design. We have helped the Brown’s with many aspects of their home including tile, carpet, shutters, powerrised shades, wallpaper, custom draperies, furniture and accessories. Working with all aspects of the design we were able to create a great design flow through the house. We continue to work with the Brown’s on additional projects within their home.

In this rustic traditional open concept home we used a fabric bound area rug to define the dining room space. We flanked the large windows with custom draperies hung on 2" wood drapery hardware. We used fabrics and finishes that would coordinate with the connecting great room and kitchen.

Pirouettes are a beautiful addition to any window, especially this one. When they are all the way up (as in this picture) you can't even tell there is a shade there. Which allows a very clear view through your window when you want it.

The Pirouettes on these windows are down with their veins open which provides a great view through to the outside and provides protection from the suns harsh UV rays, all while having a very sleek and clean appearance at the window.

Here is a close up view of the Pirouette veins when the shade is in the down and open position. You can see the sheer fabric that provides light diffusion and UV protection.

Adding custom throw pillows to your sofa is a great way to add uniqueness to your space. Dressing up the pillows with decorative trim is a wonderful way to throw in a splash of color.

Flanking each side of the fireplace with custom draperies helped to define the living room space and emphasis to the fireplace being the focal point of the space. Coordinating the drapery fabrics with the window treatments in the connecting spaces really tied the rooms together.

Shutters provide great light control in any space. You can open the louvers and direct where you want the light to go, and when they are closed they block out the light. You can also put them on arched windows, as they are here.

Let your wallpaper be the emphasis, with a large scale pattern in a small room there is no need to hang artwork. Faux wood blinds function great in a bathroom, you can use the slats to direct the light or close them for privacy.

To provide privacy for the client we used a honeycomb style shade to cover this window. Not only will it give privacy, but it is very energy efficient. We coordinated the shade with a beautiful top treatment hung by medallions, giving it a unique style.
