Burwell Residence
“I wanted the equivalent of a Calvin Klein dress....I feel like I got the dress!”
—Bieke Burwell
The clients’ thirty acre parcel sits on the western side of Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley, quite hilly and with vistas in virtually every direction. The residence is composed as a series of pavilions, linked by parallel outdoor spaces and gardens. Landscaped paths and a series of terraces afford views of intimate garden courts as well as distant vistas. The perspective is always shifting and changing, with surprises along the way. The home’s main living space and terrace sit at the intersection of two particularly significant vistas: one to the southeast, of the cultivated fields and vineyards, the other to the southwest, up a pristine, untouched valley.
