What started as a small family weekend lodge 25 years ago has grown into an extended family compound near the Wayne National Forest in southeastern Ohio.

The bedroom tower (on stilts) hovers above the ground and being elevated, provides spectacular views of the countryside.

Corrugated metal siding reflects the farm building vernacular of the area. A glazed strip window adds a contemporary take to the traditional typology.

The building constantly provides a framed edge through which to view the natural landscape.

The interior of the great room is finished in standard fir construction plywood. LVL beams and steel brackets are left exposed to create a warm yet industrial aesthetic. Cove lighting covers the entire perimeter.

The simple geometry of the structure stands in stark contrast to the rugged natural environment. A neutral pallet of galvanized metal and dark bronze serve as a backdrop, highlighting the changing colors of the leaves.
