Cannonball Run
The Cannonball Run, the first private deck to be built along this stretch of the San Marcos river in two decades, embraces the sensitive nature of the place and provides a restful place to enjoy the river.
Situated around a mature Pecan tree, the deck is located in the 100 year flood plain. This portion of the river has been known to flood 15+ feet. Matt-foundations, earth anchors, and framing connectors were all used to keep the deck rooted firmly in the ground, protecting the deck from floating debris during potential future floods.
Designed for a family with young children, the deck provides a convenient place for the adults to stay dry, yet keep a watchful eye on the kids as they jump from the Cannonball run.
Constructed as a design-build project by our office, this deck offered many opportunities to explore various details and techniques for fabrication using the FSC certified Brazilian hardwood Massaranduba.
