Cape May, NJ, Beach Retreat

We renovated and redecorated this glorious shoreside home in Cape May in a manner that paid tribute to the home's early 20th-century roots, but with a fresh dose of contemporary embellishments.

fabric by China Seas covers this antique Art Deco chair, and is repeated for the draperies. Solid teak accent table to the right of the chair, custom vinyl-covered ottoman, and vintage lamp is from Vermillion in Miami. The sofa fabric is Holly Hunt's "Tides," an indoor-outdoor fabric.

A custom built-in storage seat to the left and built-in desk to the right flank the ornamental staircase. New oak flooring was laid over the original treads and risers, and the original bannisters were painted in Benjamin Moore's Beyond Pale.

Chandelier is made of wood by LZF, sold along with the dining table through Apartment Zero. The chairs are by Lee Industries, upholstered in indoor-outdoor fabric by Duralee. The flooring here, and throughout the first floor, is 6-inch fumed oak planks by Mohawk Industries.

Beyond the dining room, we had custom built-in shelving installed under the living room window, adding to the room's casual vibe.

The kitchen barstools are sold through Bartolomei & Co. They are covered in a criss-cross rafia by Brentano. The cabinetry is custom-designed.

The gorgeous Azul Bahia quartzite dictated the color scheme for the kitchen and dining areas. The sturdy woven vinyl floor mat is by Design Materials, through Classic Floor Designs in DC.

This master bedroom is all custom: we designed the night stands and headboard, and specified China Seas toile for the bedspread, shams and drapery valance. The vintage lamps are by Vermillion in Miami. The fan is by Minka. Walls are Benjamin Moore Sepia Tan, ceiling and trim are BM Beyond Pale.

We created this new outdoor seating area with a contemporary fire pit to complement the Janus et Cie furniture. The rain drum in between the lounge chairs is from Pottery Barn.
