Casa 2057

Located in South Los Angeles, this modest 1920s Spanish-style bungalow was reimagined through a careful renovation that balances modern living with the character of the original home. With settled foundations and gently askew walls, the design introduces clean lines while preserving the building’s early charm.

The existing plaster arch now marks a threshold between old and new, while the formerly compartmentalized kitchen, dining, and laundry areas were consolidated into a series of connected zones organized around a central storage wall. A new glass door at the rear reframes the interior around the landscape, flooding the common spaces with light and drawing views from the Palo Verde tree at the front to the lush Mediterranean garden beyond.

The backyard was transformed into an urban oasis within the historic tract neighborhood, extending the living space into a quiet, layered retreat.
