An antique Trumeau mirror from France and a vase of cotton boll branches greet guests in the front entry; setting the scene for the home's signature blend of formal and comfortable.
Front Entry to Historic Charleston Home
A pair of rare Chippendale chairs upholstered in leather keep pace with the contemporary art presiding over the foyer. A buttery yellow on the walls is a transition between the bolder colors in adjoining rooms.
Foyer
The owners requested a vibrant dining space for lively dinner conversation; Red walls complement the bold artwork and beautiful pierced woodwork.
Formal Dining Room
A rich teal on the walls adds softness and serenity, yet sophistication . New arm chairs in a fresh floral linen complement the formal fabrics on the antiques.
Formal Living Room
The details of the archway's woodwork is balanced with an antique Chinese chest; a mirror is placed over a doorway to reflect the arch opposite.
Architectural Moldings
Dominated by a spectacular round painting, the study is a retreat for reading and conversation.The comfortable sofa and wing chairs offset a cotton bale side table and antique tapestried Jacobean chair. A red stained bookcase/cabinet covers the east wall surrounding the windows.
Study
Teal paint on lower cabinets helps break the planes in the kitchen, bringing in color without overwhelming the room. A fabric wall covering adds warmth, and new slipcovers revitalize antique Irish chairs . The owner's beloved collection of Blue Canton china is featured in the open shelves.
Breakfast Nook
Off the kitchen and overlooking the pool, the porch was remodeled into an office and cozy sunroom; it quickly became the grandchildren's favorite hangout. Sunbrella fabrics provide protection against sun and sticky hands.
Sun Room
With a copper roof and detailed woodwork, the new pool house is an outdoor room without walls that keeps the beautifully designed pool area in full view. Pieces of Blue Canton add sophistication to space.
