The top of the table is made from reclaimed American chestnut. In or around 1904, a Japanese ship came into the US. It apparently picked up a blight which in turn attached all our American chestnut trees on the eastern border and into the mid west. Within 15 years, all our American chestnut trees died. This was a very valuable asset we lost. It was a very hard wood and the trees grew to enormous sizes. Today the only way to acquire American chestnut is by reclaiming it from a previous structure.

The pedestal base of this table is a cast iron grommet machine that we found in the basement of a former shoe store in downtown Attleboro, MA.
