A blend of influences, this retirement house combines Arts and Crafts and Mountain Rustic elements in a clean, modern design. Straddling a ridgeline, the design called for ordering the sequence of spaces moving from the entry to the main living areas on the opposite side of the house. The stair hall provides this connection, highlighted by skylights that bring natural light to the center of the house. Built-in cabinets create a focus and structure for this central space and display space for the owner’s collection of art pottery. Details and materials are clean, cost effective, and low maintenance.
