Coastal Cottage Native Garden
A cozy cabin-like home built in 1951, nestled into the canyons of Brentwood/Santa Monica.
Garden installed in January 2017. More photos to come as garden flourishes.
The clients sought to work with SMGA after seeing one of our gardens on the Theodore Payne Native Garden Tour in 2017. The home is situated on a hillside which requires careful consideration and meticulous attention in the design phase, attributes SMGA brings to all its projects. The wish was for the rear garden area to be functional, easy to use, and a delight for the senses with California Native plant material.
The result is a vibrant concept that celebrates all aspects of the space and creative use of California Native plants such as Yankee Point Ceanothus, Dwarf Coyote Bush, Emerald Carpet Manzanita, Sulphur-yellow Buckwheat, Yerba Buena and Dudleyas. Existing apple trees, a new Sentinel Manzanita, and a new Strawberry Tree are surrounded by drifts of groundcovers, selected for their complimentary foliage and texture as well as their erosion preventing root structures.
