This project consisted of new construction of a contemporary coastal residence on Cohasset’s beautiful Atlantic Avenue. The client brought MDLA on early in the design process to help define vehicular circulation and approach, explore creative solutions to the rocky sloping landforms, and to create an overall landscape master plan with their goals for family entertaining and relaxation in mind.

Various alternatives were produced during the initial phases of the project. Options explored reducing the auto court area and eliminating guest house parking.

Earth tone bluestone paving was selected for the raised front terrace and guest house entryways. Native peastone was utilized on the driveway, accented by a precast paver band at the entry and auto court apron.

An existing deck perched above the rocky Atlantic coastline was removed and replaced with a new structure. Reclaimed granite steps meander down to the beach and boat house.

Native plantings such as shore rose, bayberry, and sweet fern follow the coastline. As you get closer to the house the plantings transition to large drifts of native grasses and colorful perennials.

Periodically used guest parking spaces were designed using a reinforced turf system to help maximize green area and soften the space.
