This renovation to a Columbia, Maryland home opened and modernized the entire first floor to accommodate the modern lifestyle of a young, dynamic family. Major room functions (including the kitchen and dining area) were relocated to embrace a more natural flow of movement with a custom open stair at the center. The approach was modern, but warm, accenting white metal elements with PSL (engineered wood joist) stair treads, exposed beams, and shelving.
