Comfortable Country Entertaining Home

Living is easy in this rustic yet refined country estate in Portland’s west hills. Remodeled in 2012 by Karen Richmond of Neil Kelly Company, this charmer started as a typical 1970’s Northwest Contemporary.

Every surface was touched in this whole house remodel. The 800 square foot addition includes an open floor plan with a kitchen and family room, a wrap-around covered porch, and large windows overlooking the picturesque property. Custom cabinetry and a barrel-vaulted ceiling are on feature in the new airy family room. The hand-scraped hardwoods carry into the large farm kitchen, which combines natural quartzite countertops and a handmade tile backsplash in a classic black and white theme. Just off the kitchen is a built in desk area with open shelves, library drawers and a custom bulletin board to make organization a breeze. Directly adjacent is a quaint eating nook overlooking the garden. Connecting through to the dining room is the butler’s pantry that features a second sink, an under-counter wine fridge, and a hidden dishwasher drawer. Also added, a new cozy front entrance complete with stone floors, built in benches and coat racks. The existing potting room just off the entrance was updated with the same primitive stone flooring. In the main part of the home, the old asymmetrical roofline was dismantled, making way for the new gable roof that vaults over the existing dining and living areas. The vaulted ceilings are clad in reclaimed barn wood and beams adding to the country charm. This once contemporary home is now befitting of its country estate thanks to the design expertise of Karen Richmond and team.
