A Commercial Mural Story
Leslie called me to help with a problem she noticed with the conference room in her Novato based electrical contracting company offices. This room is 30 feet by 20 feet with no windows. Although it was well lit and nicely furnished with comfortable table and chairs she had noticed that people tended to become angry over discussions while using the space. I asked her what she hoped to achieve with an environmental mural. Her response provided the key to what the mural would eventually be.
“I want the space to be healing.
I want people to be reminded of what is important in life.
I want it to feel the way I feel when I am in Maui.”
After hearing this I suggested that we choose Maui as the theme for the conference room murals. She was excited about that idea and immediately asked to proceed with the mural.
Four months after the mural was completed I had the chance to ask Leslie how the conference room felt now that the murals were in place. Her answer was illuminating.
“There is a calm and vibrant energy there now. People are alert and productive.
You have left us a masterpiece.”
