Cottage Style Now: Kitchen

In this country home on 5 acres east of San Antonio, the owners had done some very stylish and wonderful design work of their own before I saw the property. They had refinished their oak kitchen cabinetry to a satin walnut color and found faux-wood ceramic tile for the dining room which exactly matched the laminate scraped planks in the adjacent hall & bedrooms.

I was asked to create custom window treatments to complement existing wall color & hand painted wall graphics. Yes, those game birds are painted on the wall! I used a textured fabric with fluffy embroidery to complement the overall color scheme and texture story, which included hair-on-hide and deer heads. The custom drapery is sewn in flat panels to give a relaxed feeling and mounted on wooden rods with nickel-finish rings. Each window has 3/8" bottom-up pleated shades for privacy, glare control and temperature insulation.

The owners had big accessory collections, which I edited and arranged; we recommended adding ledges to display family photos near the kitchen table.
