Cousins River Residence

GO Logic recently completed the design and construction of a new high-performance, contemporary residence on the bluff of the Cousins River in Southern Maine. The residence sits in a clearing, providing ample passive solar gain, and surrounded by a wooded site at the edge of the Cousins River estuary. Beautiful views through the pine forest offer glimpses of the estuary and wildlife beyond.

The residence is adapted from our single story, three-bedroom, 1,600 square foot pre-design and has been customized to meet the specific personal and site requirements of the owners. Alterations to the original plan include a three-season screen porch, a covered walkway, custom interior fixtures and cabinetry, and a PV system that will meet the annual energy demand of the residence, resulting in a near net-zero home. The open floor plan is oriented to solar south, with vaulted interior spaces under the shed roof, which projects over the south facade to provide solar shading in the summer. Additional built in cabinetry and shelving provide spatial separation in the open plan, creating a diversity of spaces within a simple volume.
