Crystallo Custom kitchen

The objective of this project was to transform an outdated kitchen into a timeless, highly functional luxury living space tailored to the homeowners' lifestyle and aesthetic preferences. The owners envisioned a kitchen that blended old-world craftsmanship with modern technology while maintaining a seamless relationship with the adjacent living areas.
Patagonia Development designed, fabricated, and installed a completely custom kitchen in which every element was tailored to the owners' specifications. The focal point is a spectacular Crystallo quartzite island illuminated from below with integrated LED lighting, showcasing the stone's natural translucency while creating a dramatic architectural centerpiece.
A primary challenge was balancing traditional design influences with contemporary functionality. The homeowners desired an old-world aesthetic while incorporating modern conveniences, clean architectural lines, and advanced technology. Another challenge involved integrating numerous custom elements—including architectural beams, cabinetry, lighting, stone surfaces, flooring details, appliances, and window treatments—into a cohesive design language.
The illuminated Crystallo island required careful engineering to address structural support, light distribution, electrical integration, fabrication tolerances, and heat management while achieving consistent illumination across the entire surface. Additional challenges included concealing modern technology within the architecture, including panelized appliances, recessed motorized shades, hidden electrical outlets, and integrated lighting systems.
Patagonia Development approached the project through a comprehensive design-build process that unified architecture, millwork, stone fabrication, lighting, and technology. Custom real wood ceiling beams were fabricated to coordinate with the decorative wood detailing on the range hood and the perimeter wood flooring border that were also custom made. These beams continue into the adjacent living room, creating visual continuity between spaces.
Full-height stone backsplashes fabricated from the same material as the countertops eliminate visual interruptions and create a seamless appearance. All major appliances were fully panelized to blend into the cabinetry, while motorized shades were recessed within the window framing to preserve clean sight lines. Under-cabinet outlets, under-cabinet LED lighting, and LED toe-kick illumination provide modern functionality without compromising aesthetics.
To create visual contrast and depth, the island was intentionally designed with an old-world furniture aesthetic, juxtaposing rich wood tones and traditional detailing against contemporary cabinetry, lighting, and stone elements. The result is a highly personalized kitchen that successfully integrates luxury materials, advanced technology, exceptional craftsmanship, and timeless design into the centerpiece of the home.
