Cube Addition in NDG

The young family that live in the 2nd story of this duplex were running out of space. We built them 500 square feet of family space and converted the existing floor into a welcoming entrance with stairs to their new addition, a master bathroom suite with walk in as well as a gracious living- tv room and bedrooms for their kids. The clients love of modern vintage and collection of teak furniture directed the clean modern finishes in the new space. Budget allocated an Ikea kitchen so we mixed the door panels to create a more custom look that fit the space and finished it off with some whimsical Fornasetti wall paper and a colorful geometric tile back splash for "a splash" of the unexpected.

At the top of the stairs, an open living space reveals the owners vintage furniture and love of bold palettes.

A view of the kitchen from the lounge reveals a white kitchen with a few surprises. Although comfortable with a mix of traditional and modern cabinets in neutral tones, we decided to enliven the back splash adding the mostly blue tiles with a custom insert of white and black.

Part of the mandate was to create a central sound system space to house the vintage amp and display more of the owners personal effects. We designed something tidy and modern that the client could DIY.

A view of the spacious island and command center to the comfortable dining room with a view over the rooftops. A small office was worked into the corner of the aspace creating the perfect lounge space at the fronet of the house.

The modern cube with integrated bbq, lighting and speakers to make outdoor living the priority in the summer months. Natural cedar was used for the flooring and a black metal grid acts as a barrier for below the hand rail so that the view are uninterrupted.
