As featured in the article, “Building “Green” Dreams” in the summer issue of Granite State Builder, this Custom Design/Built ICF home is a true example that dreams do come true. Located on a small lake in southern New Hampshire and offering peaceful views from its privately positioned outdoor living room, this gorgeous open concept home was designed with preservation of the native landscape in mind. Offering main level living, beautiful hand milled native New Hampshire black oak wide plank flooring, cathedral ceilings, and a grand staircase leading to a top floor loft. Designed and Built by Northstar Contractors, LLC, this custom lake front home has a bit more to offer than its fellow energy efficient homes. Built for the 21st Century and Centuries to come, we incorporated modern technology along with the most durable building materials and methodology in the world. Spanning from the footings to the rafters, the entire exterior wall structure of this home is a continuous solid 6”steel reinforced concrete wall. Utilizing BuildBlock Building Systems™ insulating concrete forms these exterior wall provide a structurally superior and super insulated walls system.
However the high R-Value performance is not the only beneficial feature that the Exterior ICF walls have to offer. Insulating Concrete Forms and Concrete are both “Green” building materials and can contribute up to 23LEED points. BuildBlock™ ICF’s contains no HCFC, formaldehyde, asbestos, or fiberglass. No harmful CFC’s (chlorofluorocarbons) are used in their manufacture, nor is there any degree of “off-gassing of” VOCs. BuildBlock™ ICF’s are also manufactured less than 1hour (driving time) from the New Hampshire’s boarder minimizing the release of CO2 due to transportation of materials, and according to the Portland Cement Association building a ICF residence can save at least 10 trees throughout the construction process.
Equipped with the Dave Lennox Series 97% AFUE heating &cooling system and controlled wirelessly by 3 NEST thermostats, along with the aid of Pella’s 350 Series windows & patio doors (U-factor = 0.18). This 4,100 sq. ft. conditioned home has an estimated annual fuel consumption of400-450gallons per year.
Natively landscape with gorgeous large flat stone walkways that take you all the way from the front door to the lakeside dock. Strategically placed native plantings hide the mechanical penetrations. This home is a true beauty and a prime example that dreams do come true.
