Cypress Point / Plano - Suburban Backyard Transformation

This nearly twenty year old home in the Dallas suburb of Plano, was in dire need of a overhaul. The clients love their lake house, but wanted their city home to have more area for outdoor entertaining - with a slightly edgy, modern vibe, but one that wouldn't feel too out of place in this mostly traditional enclave.
First on the to-do list was extend the too-small covered area ( typical of some builders, they dont allow enough room for furniture). A Standing Seam Metal roof with Cedar Tongue and Groove ceiling added enough room for a seating area and dining, and the homeowner add her own modern touch with furniture and accessories. Note the open fret work on the Bronze Light fixtures!
Also added was a Firepit area that can be used year round with the custom built-in concrete firepit/cocktail table, and Ipe and Pennsylvania Blue-stone Bench that ties in with the Random Rectangle Blue-stone whole terrace.
The Backyard is made even more usable with the addition of a gravel-sand seating area down the slope which is shaded all summer by a huge native Cedar Elm - the terracing being achieved with our signature addition of raw construction grade steel steep and grass treads.
Plantings include Coralbark Japanese Maples, Viburnum Awbuki, Arizona Cypress 'Carolina Sapphire , Autumn Blaze Red Maple, Autumn Ferns, Turks Cap, and Inland Sea Oats.
