Decorating for Easter

Now that the Easter Season is close, I hope you have found time to set up some nice vignettes -- and if not, you have a whole year to find some unique Easter decorations to display next season. Start looking, and here are a few of the items I’ve discovered over the years.

A collection of small resin rabbits and collected feathers nested in moss-lined brass baskets. Interesting and easy to store from Easter to Easter and fun to see again each year.

A carved white rabbit adorned with Afghani silver tassels peers out from a Mexican nicho. The small watercolor egg is by one of the grandchildren.

These black and white papier mache rabbits look ready to enjoy the small foil-wrapped chocolate eggs that fill a Japanese document box. A large foil-covered egg and an original rabbit pastel by Ann Munson finish the display.

A German wood chicken – a child’s toy from the 1930s – adds a touch of whimsy to this collection of vintage papier mache egg boxes in different patterns and sizes, all nesting on dry green moss (so they won’t roll around). The egg boxes can open at Easter for chocolates or small treasures.

A family of four white related bunnies comes out each year just for Easter – it’s always fun to see them again.

An old paper “accordion” rabbit from the 1940s (with an original tag marked 10¢) sits atop a small oil painting of a chicken in an antique frame.

These bright animal shapes – rabbits, fish and deer - are hand-stitched onto the cotton coverlet and pillows by the men in small Mexican villages. They clash nicely with the colors of the over-blown tulips in a brass vase on the pine bedside table.
