Diamond J Residence
This 5,700 square foot residence located at the base of the Sierra Nevada's was conceptualized around views and sustainability.
There are views from every side of the residence. To the south and east there are Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain. To the north, city views and the east, views of the Virginia Range. The main interior and exterior spaces are focused towards the south and west, while the secondary rooms and outdoor areas concentrate on the other views. There is a strong connection between interior and exterior through the placement of the openings and the flow of the living space from inside to outside.
The design incorporates many sustainable features such as, passive strategies (shading, prevailing winds and thermal mass), recycled building materials (reclaimed wood siding), longevity of building products (zinc siding and concrete walls), enhanced indoor environmental quality, high efficiency lighting, low-e windows, continuous insulation on the exterior, native and low-water consuming landscaping.
