Downtown Loft
A beautiful downtown loft conversion in an Art Deco era building. My Clients specifically wanted to be able to live, dine and have dinner gatherings in this space. We wanted it to be cheerful, welcoming but uncluttered. A large table and 6 dining chairs previously occupying the room was overwhelming, so we used seating that doubles up as dining chairs and lounge chairs, in keeping with the art deco style and an upholstered 2 seater bench. All are custom upholstered using a carefully curated color palette. The chairs and bench can be pulled up to the circular table that expands to become an oval table, comfortably seating 6. It was also important that the furniture was sturdy yet light enough to be moved. Also taken into consideration was the low height of the chair backs, so as not to impede the view of the room. With a turquoise blue and yellow foundation for the color palette, we added pops of red around the room with the side table, art work and pillows. Concrete walls made it necessary to use a plug-in wall scone by the banquette which we customized by replacing the typical black electrical cord to a bright yellow fabric one. It now becomes a feature to display rather than something to hide. A neutral but textured wool rug with a lotus flower design grounds the room as do the pale grey walls.
