Downtown Madison, WI Condo Remodel
Overall this small cute condo was lacking in personality. It had all the amenities but no soul. Our client has tons of personality. She is playful; willing to take risks, and abhors the norm and brown.
So we took a journey together to make her condo her home.
First we dressed up the kitchen and bar area by adding glass tile to the backsplash to finish the space and add some glam to it. Then we added a porcelain tile to the wall to add a new texture and depth to the space. A new dining pendant over the table adds some sparkle and to rid ourselves of the builder spec.
Our client has two very active cats so to keep them off the counters and table; we created a cat walk out of reclaimed barn boards. On one wall they go up and down and they can go up and over the cabinets in the kitchen. It keeps them content when she is out for long hours and it also gives them somewhere to go up.
It was fun to use the colors we did; we used tones of cool grey to rid the brown and tan tones, this also gives a great back ground for artwork and accessories. We used a black wall to give the view prominence. It is stunning with the aluminum window trim and blinds. Note: we were unable to remove the blinds because of the condo association. So we turned them into an asset instead of a hindrance. The Black wall at night is absolutely stunning with the view of city below.
The furnishing we played with color, pattern, and texture. The white 'hug you loveseat' fit perfectly into the space and the swivel chair was selected for no other reason other than it was comfortable and fun and you know what? It works. The rug was a great find. The mod design and bright colors really bring life to the space.
For the Parlor, we did a beautiful yellow; the color just glows with warmth; gray on the walls, green rug and red cabinetry makes this one of the most playful rooms I have ever done. We used red cabinetry for TV and office components. And placed them on the wall so the cats can climb up and around the room and red shelving on one wall for the cat walk and on the other cabinet with COM Fabric that have cut outs for the cats to go up and down and also storage.
In the bedroom we created the feel of the ocean, with just the right shade of blue; white and natural linen bedding, and natural wood furnishing. The drapes were custom made with blackout lining to wrap around the room to cover up the blinds in this room. Remember we couldn't remove them, but they were not dark enough. To keep the beachy look a very natural looking fabric with a simmer was selected but you can’t see in the photo.
