For a small window, install a new window treatment by using a cornice valance installed about 3"-4" below the existing molding to add window height and color to the room. The window will appear taller.

Before Shed and Fence

A small transom window above a wider entry door is transformed to create a continuity with the door and is more aesthetically pleasing. Molding is installed around the window to balance the door width.

This entry wall had a small transom window that did not balance the wider door. Molding trim was placed around the window to equal the door's width. Picture frame moulding was added within the side walls to mimic sidelights to visually widen the space.

Using your furnace cabinet, tie the walls together to create more interesting architectural details. Add faux soffits between the walkway path and two posts to the long wall. It will appear that was the original plan. Use a glass pantry door and curtain drape to camouflage the furnace behind.
