The initial phase of this project, completed in 2014, consisted of finishing out the daylight basement level of the existing residence, adding a bedroom suite and library. The owners are so enamored with the initial project, that they now spend the majority of their time in those spaces. Due to limited mobility, they needed an accessible means of getting down to the basement, thus an elevator needed to be added to the house. Adding an elevator created a few challenges: the best location for the new elevator was in an existing bedroom, leaving an awkward L-shaped space leftover. This space was incorporated into an adjacent bedroom and now used as a small office space. A walk-in closet was an added bonus to the existing bedroom. An additional bathroom was added to an unfinished portion of the basement. Much of the detailing, woodwork, and materials reference the work that was done in Phase 1.
