Duvall Creek
Our firm was hired to complete a landscape master plan for this large weekend home overlooking Fishing Creek off the South River in Annapolis. Eventually, this home will be the homeowners’ primary residence; thus their planning was truly long range. Prior to our involvement, their architect already had worked out the details of the location of the pool and raised terrace. Our challenge was to soften the large expanse of hardscape as well as compliment the out buildings with lush plantings. Planting pockets and containers were designed in the pool deck to create year round color and texture. The containers were filled with seasonal flowers and palm trees complete with drip irrigation to provide water during the growing season. From the beginning the adjacent house needed to be screened from the view as you enter the property and from the pool deck. This was accomplished by installing 18’-20’ evergreens to create a barrier. Shrubs, flowering trees, perennials and grasses were planted in front of these evergreens to create a layered affect and bring your eye to ground level. A curvilinear paver driveway leads to the circular entry drive at the front of the house complete with a stone walkway leading to the entrance of the home. The waterfront and side of the property were planted with native trees, shrubs, grasses and perennials to blend with the existing waterfront vegetation. In the evening, low voltage lighting illuminates the space and accentuate the understated grandeur of this home. The clients and their teenage children have a truly spectacular entertainment area reminiscent of a resort.
