Eclectic Cottage, Ripon
The brief was for a room in an old stone cottage which had been built between 2 existing cottages. The walls were anything but square but were full of character that needed something special when it came to the toilet choice.
The problem:
The existing bathroom lacked personality and identity, yet sat within a property full of history and a few hidden suprises.
The design brief:
The re-designed space had to reflect the character of the cottage.
The solution:
The toilet needed to be the hero of the scheme. A standard one just wouldn't have worked in this space. The cranked flush ppe leading up to the polished aluminium, high level cistern allowed it to command attention as it took centre stage. Exposed brick & stone wall surfaces were offset by the sleek glossy lines of the bath. In balance, the basin treatment needed to be as simple as possible. Anything else would have overpowered the room. Emulating the glazing bars of the bedroom window beyond with etching, the connecting door was clad with grey mirror.
