Edmonds Landscaping Project

This house had a well established landscape that had become a bit overgrown in some areas. Additionally the front yard was hidden behind a solid screen of evergreen trees and did not convey an inviting feeling to the home. The clients wanted to open up the front yard, update the plantings and create multiple garden beds for both ornamental landscaping and cut flower and vegetable beds.

The landscape berms have been installed and the edges of the pathway are defined. The square pavers were being used to check the level of the grade on the new pathway.

The old lawn was cut into chunks and turned over to form the base of the new berms. The pathway is being dug out and some plants have been placed to check how they will look in the new scheme.

4' x 8' raised planting beds made from woodchips and cement bound together. Water and insect resistant. The beds come in a kit with the connecting black metal plates and cedar top. There were ten of these placed in the side yard area.

This hillside area below the side yard was difficult to mow and a great place for additional growing beds with a great southern exposure.

The new hillside retaining beds were created with inexpensive concrete blocks set on a compacted decomposed granite base.

A sample of the overgrown landscaping in the back yard. This rhody was blocking a gorgeous little Japanese maple tree from view and taking up the entire planting bed area.

The same garden bed after the rhody was removed. The Japanese maple was trimmed up revealing the twisted trunk which also has uplighting beneath it. A stunning view in the evening hours! Basalt columns are a centerpiece of the bed now.
