Edwardian Industrial

This home was designed and rebuilt for my own family. We desired a home that would be a blend of historic and contemporary. The home was remodeled with architectural sensitivity to the original 1892 Victorian structure, so we restored or recreated the exterior architectural details faithfully. On the interior, we strove for a sense of history, permanence and a layered feel. Although we created detailed wood moldings, wood divided light windows, wood paneled doors, stained glass and cut marble floors which feel historically appropriate, I wanted it to feel as though the home and objects in it were the result of generations of inhabitants and collectors. But we also wanted it to feel of the now, and not like some sort of period re-creation, so we added vintage industrial lighting, wide planked grey fumed Belgian oak floors, vintage Victorian and Edwardian taxidermy, modern and contemporary photography. The materials are historical, such as the marble floors in the bathrooms, but they are cut into contemporary patterns such as herringbone, plaid and oversized hexagons. The color palate was a cool, moody mix of grey, eggplant, dark turquoise and dusty blues, greens and neutrals. I really wanted to achieve that lived-in "World of Interiors" look.
